How To Get Rid of Weeds (Naturally and with Weed Killers)

Your lawn won’t be the envy of the neighbourhood if it has patchy patches and weeds. You want a lush, green lawn with fine grass that doesn’t have dandelions poking through. A few pesky weeds may be easy to remove by hand—as long as you take care to remove the roots, of course. But if your lawn is overrun with weeds, you may need to start over. Here’s our guide for weed removal.

Our feet long for the glowing green grass of the grass throughout the year. But nobody wants that stringy ivy, coarse clover, or fuzzy dandelions sticking out from beneath your toes instead. Weeds grow and grow without any apparent limit until they become a vast, unwanted irritant. Once you spot one, chances are you’ll see more! The good news is you can bring your lawn back to life by ridding it of weeds and keeping it healthy by following these steps.

To get a healthy lawn, you have to maintain it by following a few simple rules to make the process easier.

Permanently Remove Weeds

Despite how weeds may seem like a menace, they are plants–just like grass, flowers or shrubs! Moreover, weeds will grow thick, just as rampantly as one of our favourite herbs if we let them. To keep weeds at bay, you need to provide an environment where they are challenged to thrive. When your grass is left unmowed, your soil is compacted, and your turf is exposed to too little water, the weeds will flourish. The best way to permanently eliminate weeds is to reverse these problems and maintain a healthy lawn.

Save Your Grass

Those are the only options we have. When you prevent them, the grass will continue to grow. Herbicides created just for weeds (like crabgrass) won’t harm your lawn. Organic methods of controlling weeds work too (if applied correctly).

Kill Weeds in 4 Easy Steps

You need to stop weeds in their tracks if weeds are overtaking your turf. There are four steps you can take to prevent this from happening:

  1. Determine what weeds you are dealing with on your lawn before buying products. Before purchasing lawn treatment products, you need to determine what kind of weeds are causing your lawn problem.
  2. Select a weed control product that is made specifically for the weeds and the stage they’re in. You will need a pre-emergent if you intend to target weeds in spring before the growing season. Find a post-emergent for established weeds.
  3. It is essential to follow the instructions for the manufacturer’s product so that you can eliminate the weeds effectively. Read the bags three times before starting so that you can be safe!
  4. It is imperative to ensure your lawn is kept correctly and weed-free by following a regular lawn care schedule.
  • Aerate your lawn and seed it in the autumn if necessary.
  • Make sure your grass gets one more trim and fertilization before winter, so it’s ready for the winter.
  • Start the spring by removing any remaining weeds and pre-emergent and applying a new pre-emergent application.
  • In the spring and summer, mow your lawn regularly, taking care not to remove more than one-third of the grass at one time.

The Natural Way to Get Rid of Weeds

The best way to get rid of weeds is by spraying vinegar directly on them and then allowing them to dry for a few days. This kills them if they’re above ground, but it will take a little bit longer than average. Additionally, it would help if you always chose vinegar with more than 5 percent acetic acid. Find vinegar with more than 10–20 percent acetic acid, head to your local home improvement store instead of the supermarket.

Research by the USDA indicates that by spraying this particular pest control solution, 80-100 percent of weed tops can be eliminated. The method below will work on a few weeds dispersed throughout the lawn, but for spreading weeds that are large enough, it’s best to use a safe and effective herbicide.
